Jimmy Ray Pope
(August 22, 1932 - April 14, 2011)

Jimmy Ray "Buddy" Pope, age 78, of Malvern passed away April 14, 2011 at St. Joseph's Mercy Health Center. He was born August 22, 1932 in Pope County at Atkins, Arkansas the son of William "Dutch" and Beatrice (Dunn) Pope. He was a decorated U.S. Army Korean War veteran, earning five Bronze Service Stars and a Purple Heart. He was a member of the VFW, the Moose International, Loyal Order of Moose Malvern Lodge #2365, Arkansas Moose Legion 181, and the Moose Fellowship Degree-Council of Higher Degrees. He was of the Assembly of God faith.
Preceding him in death are his parents; brothers, Luther and Bill Pope; and sisters, Lula Mae McCain, Annie May, Judy Stacks, and Jewel Dean Holyfield.

Survivors are his wife, Betty (Watson) Pope, to whom he was married on May 24, 2003; children, Kathy Davis, Ricky Pope and wife, Chris, and Sandra Wright and husband, Britt, all of Malvern; grandchildren, Michelle Davis Tackett, Shawn Davis, Brandon Pope, and Mitchell Wright; great grandchildren, Zachary Green, Christa Green, Kasie Tackett, Collin, Cole, and Clay Davis; great-great grandchild, Alexis Green; step-children, Melissa and Jerry White, and Shane and Adam Tiernan; step-grandchildren, Nicole Ables, Tyler and Clayton White, Madison Robinson, Haylee and Hayden Tiernan; and sisters, Ollie Marie Moore of Hot Springs, Bessie Patrick of Malvern, and Marilyn Reynolds of Atkins.

Visitation will be Sunday, April 17th from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Regency Funeral Home in Malvern.

Services will be Monday, April 18th at 10:00 a.m. in the Regency Chapel with Brothers Paul Grigsby and Roger Wall officiating. Interment will follow at Bells Chapel in Atkins, Arkansas at 3:00 p.m. with military honors.

Pallbearers are Shawn Davis, Brandon Pope, Mitchell Wright, Zachary Green, Hunter Martin, Shane Tiernan, and Adam Tiernan. Honorary pallbearers are Malvern Moose Lodge #2365 members, Tommy Lee, Ronnie Jo Thompson, Bill Smith, Jake Wunderlich, and D. W. Thurman.

A Memorial Service will also be held for him at the Malvern Moose Lodge on Wednesday, April 20th at 6:00 p.m.

Jake Wunderlich and Linda Addie were recognized for their service and dedication during the 2010 Moose International Convention held in Nashville, Tennessee. The International Loyal Order of Moose presented Jacob Wunderlich with the Fellowship Degree of Merit. The Women of the Moose awarded Linda Addie with the College of Regents higher degree of service.

The AMA Leadership training session scheduled for Sunday, June 20th, has been cancelled. Arkansas Moose Association will be offering another session on June 27th, at the Mountain Home Lodge. The Malvern Moose Lodge held its annual Easter Egg Hunt on Sunday, April 4th. Approximately 50 kids under the age of 12 [and a few parents] made a mad dash to find traditionally dyed eggs and prize eggs. As usual the "HUNT" didn't take long to clear the field. Lodge and Chapter members dyed one thousand eggs and stuffed several hundred plastic, prize eggs with goodies including coupons good for toys, games, cash prizes, and of course, chocolate. The kids were divided into four age groups, each with a designated area in which to hunt. Special guest, the Lodge Easter Bunny [a.k.a. Kasie Tackett] handed out candy and posed for pictures with the little Easter guests. Lodge and Chapter members provided outdoor concessions, including fresh-off-the-grill hamburgers, hot dogs, chips and drinks for purchase. This year's community event was blessed with sunshine and smiles, as we remember last year, hunting the eggs INSIDE due to flooding rains.
